LOS ANGELES — It’s an image that would have been a Mavs fan’s AI-generated nightmare a month ago. Luka Doncic’s name and number in purple and gold — not just one time, but 20,000 times. That is now reality.
Ahead of Luka Doncic’s debut, the Lakers are giving away a shirt bearing the star’s iconic number 77 to every fan inside Crypto.com Arena. The arena seats around 20,000.
The giveaway is a good gesture from the Lakers organization after the blockbuster trade. It also lessens the sting of the cost of admission to tonight’s contest against the Jazz.
The image is an eyesore for Mavericks fans, who are still mourning the loss of their franchise player. But clearly, Lakers fans are excited to grab their new Luka gear. The star’s jersey sold out in many sizes on NBA.com shortly after dropping.
Heck, even LeBron James is excited to have Luka in LA.
All Mavs fans can hope for now is that Dirk Nowitzki doesn’t sport Lakers colors as he attends tonight’s game.
