Southwest CEO Bob Jordan believes Tom Doxey’s addition will be a “tremendous asset” to the executive team

Southwest Airlines Co. has tapped industry veteran Tom Doxey as chief financial officer. His hire was announced Feb. 10.

Doxey will also serve as executive vice president when he starts at Southwest (NYSE: LUV) on March 10. Doxey will replace Tammy Romo, a Southwest veteran serving more than 30 years with the airline, who is retiring April 1. She spent more than 10 years as CFO.

Doxey is leaving the president role at Utah-based Breeze Airways to join the Dallas-based airline. Prior to his role at Breeze, Doxey held several leadership roles at United Airlines after beginning his career at Allegiant Air and US Airways.

Southwest CEO Bob Jordan believes Doxey’s addition will be a “tremendous asset” to the executive team as the airline makes progress on a “transformational plan” that includes dramatic operational changes and extensive cost-cutting.

In his new role, Doxey is expected to make a base salary of $575,000 with a possible incentive bonus of $776,250 prorated for 2025, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. He will also be granted stock units totaling nearly $2.8 million and a $500,000 cash bonus.

Doxey’s appointment is the latest step in a Southwest leadership overhaul, following a showdown last year with activist investor Elliott Investment Management LP.

In January, Chief Administration Officer Linda Rutherford announces she would retire alongside Romo April 1. Former CEO Gary Kelly stepped down as chairman of the board in November, which was just one part of a board overhaul.
