Black ice reported in two major DFW traffic closures Thursday morning: Latest updates

Black ice was reported on eastbound Interstate 20 at Dowdy Ferry Road, where a jack-knifed 18-wheeler was blocking lanes.

DALLAS — Thursday morning’s freezing cold weather didn’t include any wintry precipitation, but ice was still causing some problems on North Texas roads.

Black ice was reported on eastbound Interstate 20 at Dowdy Ferry Road, where a jack-knifed 18-wheeler was blocking lanes, according to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office. Also, ice was visible on northbound I-35E near Kiest Boulevard in Dallas, where the highway was closed in that direction heading into downtown.

Further to the west in Dallas, northbound Spur 408 was closed at Kiest Boulevard due to ice.

The Texas Department of Transportation confirmed the closures were related to ice on the roadways.

The ice was presumably from moisture leftover on the roadways from Wednesday’s rain across North Texas.

The I-35E closure near Kiest was reported around 5 a.m. and had traffic being diverted off the highway at Overton Road. No information on injuries was initially available.

In the I-20 crash involving the 18-wheeler, no injuries were reported.

Authorities were urging drivers to take caution on the roads Thursday morning.

Temperatures were expected to rise above freezing in North Texas around 11 a.m. Thursday.
