SABINE COUNTY, Texas — The Sabine County Sheriff’s Office announced their sheriff, Tom Maddox, died Thursday morning after battling long-term health issues.
Maddox served Texas DPS for over 30 years before taking up the role as Sabine County sheriff. A portion of I-45 was closed Wednesday as deputies escorted Maddox in honor of his service.

“Maddox was an outstanding sheriff, as well as a friend and ally to the citizens of East Texas. He meant a lot and will be missed. Our hearts and prayers are with his family and the residents of Sabine County today.”
