SAPD confirms arrest of man accused of driving car into Woodlawn Lake, shot by park officer while armed with knife

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Department confirmed Tuesday the name of the park officer who shot a man multiple times after he was accused of approaching them with a knife and driving his car into Woodlawn Lake.

On Monday, police confirmed the man’s name as Chase Deckard-Thomas, 30.

Bexar County jail records indicated that Deckard-Thomas was booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center on Sund ay morning.

Deckard-Thomas is facing an aggravated assault against a public service charge.

San Antonio police said an SAPD Park Police Officer, identified on Tuesday morning as Kimberly Alonso, was dispatched to an accident call around 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Lake. The department said a vehicle drove through the walking trail and crashed into the lake.

Police said Alonso attempted to check on the driver, who was later identified as Deckard-Thomas.

While doing so, SAPD said Deckard-Thomas got out of his vehicle with a knife and aggressively moved toward Alonso.

Authorities said Alonso told Deckard-Thomas to back off. When he continued to approach her, SAPD said Alonso fired two rounds at Deckard-Thomas.

Deckard-Thomas was taken to the hospital in critical condition. No other injuries were reported.

Police said Alonso, who has been a park police officer for nine years, has been placed on administrative duty.
