Texas Wesleyan University will close at 4 p.m. Tuesday due to an Extreme Cold Watch affecting the Dallas-Fort Worth area, shifting all evening classes to virtual instruction.

Earlier today, an email from the Office of Communication was sent to faculty and staff. According to the email, university leadership made the decision to close early in response to extreme cold weather and the possibility of light freezing rain starting late Tuesday afternoon.

“As a result, please be advised that our university operations will close beginning at 4 p.m. today, February 18. However, all courses meeting after 4 p.m. will continue to meet virtually,” the email stated.

On Monday, Feb 17, students, faculty and staff received an email from the Office of Communications warning of wind chills as low as 10 below zero and light freezing temperatures beginning Tuesday night through Wednesday morning.

“The University leadership will continue to monitor the weather and provide any updates as necessary via the Official University Emergency Alert System, the university website, official student email, and social media accounts,” the message stated.

University officials will continue to monitor weather conditions and provide updates through the Official University Emergency Alert System, the university website, student email, and social media accounts.

Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to prioritize safety when commuting and to check for further updates at www.txwes.edu or from Outlook email.

In addition to the university-wide closure, Residence Life announced that Dora’s Dining Hall will close at 7:30 p.m., an hour earlier than scheduled. Additionally, university staff will work to clear pathways around campus to ensure safer conditions for students walking in freezing temperatures. Students are advised to plan their meals accordingly and use caution when navigating campus walkways.

“University Staff will clear one safe pathway for each community. Refrain from throwing snowballs to avoid injuries,” the email stated.
