TxDOT is closing managed express lanes in Texas due to incoming cold front and wintry weather.
DALLAS — Ahead of the arrival of frigid temperatures and the potential for a wintry mix this week, the Texas Department of Transportation says it’s closing all their managed express lanes until further notice.
TxDOT said Tuesday afternoon its managed TEXpress lanes will be closed until further notice because of the weather.
“Plan ahead for evening commute & continue to watch forecasts,” TxDOT’s Dallas office said in a statement on social media.
TEXpress Lanes later posted on X that the weather closures would start Tuesday night at 5 p.m.
An arctic blast is expected to bring the coldest air into the season this week beginning Tuesday through Thursday, leading to WFAA Weather Alert Days.
There’s also the potential that rain Tuesday could transition to freezing rain or sleet overnight Tuesday with the potential for light ice accumulation.
It’s unclear whether the tollroad closures are in response to the deadly multi-vehicle pileup crash on an icy stretch of the toll lanes of I-35 in Fort Worth in 2021, which was the largest chain-reaction crash in North Texas history.
