Fort Worth ISD names Dr. Karen Molinar lone finalist for superintendent position

 

Molinar has served with the district for 27 years and was named the permanent superintendent after serving as interim for the past four months.

FORT WORTH, Texas — The Fort Worth Independent School District Board of Education passed a vote to name Dr. Karen Molinar as the lone finalist for its permanent superintendent position.

The decision came more than four months after FWISD’s former superintendent, Dr. Angelica Ramsey , resigned in October, a move that cost the district over $500,000. The vote passed unanimously, 9-0.

Molinar was named interim superintendent a week after Ramsey’s resignation. Since entering the interim position, Molinar has been vocal about wanting to challenge students to improve STARR test results. In line with that plan, Molinar and city leaders announced an intense focus on getting students to read at grade level districtwide last month.

Molinar has worked for Fort Worth ISD for 27 years, serving as a deputy superintendent, classroom teacher, principal and the district’s chief of elementary schools. 

WFAA sat down for a one-on-one interview with Dr. Molinar in October. Here’s what she had to say:
