Zoocade, the first holographic zoo in the United States, has opened in Austin.
The attraction features a more than 60-foot holographic tunnel. Visitors wear 3D glasses to view the exhibit as they walk through.
“The hologram zoo is like a tunnel that you circle through, and as you walk through it, the content changes,” said Reva Enzminger, who brought the concept to Austin.
Zoocade offers three themed shows, each lasting 20 to 25 minutes.
The Africa theme shows includes holographic lions, giraffes, and elephants, among others, according to the website.
The Australian theme shows koalas, kangaroos, crocodiles and snakes. In the dinosaur attraction, you can see long neck dinosaurs, T. rexes and more.
The attraction aims to provide an alternative to traditional zoos, offering close animal encounters regardless of the weather.
“As a mom, I’ve gone to the zoo many times, and the animals don’t come out because it’s hot or cold,” Enzminger said.
There are other holographic zoos around the world, including those in Australia, China, and Canada, according to a news release by Zoocade.
Plans are underway to expand the experience to other areas of the state.
“I’m already looking at other tech attractions that I can include in this, and once we get the right formula, we’re going to grow as fast as we can in Texas,” Enzminger said.
Tickets for the attraction start at $25 per person, and some packages including arcade games are available starting at $31, according to the website.
