AUSTIN (Nexstar) — As Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (Federal DOGE) continues to make headlines, the Texas House of Representatives created its own Delivery of Government Efficiency (Texas DOGE) Committee with similar goals in mind.
Unlike the Federal DOGE, which is defined as a “Temporary Service Organization” in the executive order creating it , Texas DOGE is a committee consisting of 13 representatives, eight Republicans and five Democrats.
The Texas DOGE committee will be chaired by House Rep. Giovanni Capriglione, R – Southlake, who’s served in the Texas House since 2013. The day after House Committee assignments were posted, Capriglione posted on his X account a meme referencing a quote from the movie “Dodgeball.”
“The 5 D’s of Doge: doge, discover, disrupt, deliver, doge. Members of the Texas House Committee on Delivery of Government Efficiency are already working hard and making plans to deliver!” Capriglione wrote.
While the goals of the Texas DOGE Committee are clear, exactly what legislation they’ll work on is currently unclear.
In a statement, Speaker of the Texas House Dustin Burrows said, “The House will be taking the lead this session to reduce the size and scope of government and review regulations to ensure they’re meeting the needs of the state. As we work to prioritize significant financial investments into public education and property tax relief, among other items, there must be a parallel effort to root out government inefficiencies wherever else possible, ensuring every dollar, every regulation, and every agency is working as efficiently as possible for Texans. DOGE committee Chairman Giovanni Capriglione is committed to taking a comprehensive look at our government to provide greater accountability and eliminate any waste, fraud, overregulation, or abuse of taxpayer resources. The Texas House is already at work to ensure our government functions less like a bloated bureaucracy and more like the thousands of fine-tuned businesses that thrive in Texas every day.”
As of publication, the Texas DOGE Committee does not yet have a meeting scheduled.
