USPS operations in North Texas city ‘temporarily suspended due to safety concerns’

The USPS suspended operations at the Melissa Post Office due to safety concerns.

MELISSA, Texas — Editor’s note: The video published above is a WFAA report about the Melissa USPS location from October 2024.

The post office in Melissa, Texas, has been temporarily suspended, effective immediately, due to safety concerns, the United States Postal Service said in a news release Friday.

WFAA has reported about the Collin County location before, where for two years, postal workers had sorted mail under tents in the office’s parking lot . And then in October of 2024, the U.S. Postal Service announced it would be opening two air-conditioned, modular units to store mail that the Melissa Post Officedid not have room to contain.

Melissa is among the fastest-growing cities in North Texas. The city’s population increased from about 5,000 to more than 23,000 in the last decade.

WFAA reached out to the city of Melissa, and officials told us they could not speak on the suspension.

USPS said in its announcement that retail operations for the Melissa Post Office have been moved to the Anna post office, located at 715 S. Powell Parkway. Customers with a P.O. Box at the Melissa Post Office, with proper photo identification, can continue to pick up their mail at the location, USPS said.
