Garland Police investigating crash that killed an 18-year-old

 

According to police, the 18-year-old was ejected from their vehicle during the crash.

GARLAND, Texas — The Garland Police Department said it is investigating a crash that killed an 18-year-old man on Feb. 21. 

According to police, officers responded to the intersection of Garland Avenue and Stratford Drive just before 10:30 p.m. to the report of a major accident involving two vehicles. 

Police said once officers arrived, they discovered one of the occupants had been ejected from their vehicle during the crash and died from their injuries. Dallas County Medical Examiner later identified that person as 18-year-old Eric Lopez Guerrero. 

According to Garland PD, early findings showed that one vehicle was driving east on Stratford Drive while the other was heading south on Garland Avenue. When the vehicle traveling on Stratford entered Garland Avenue, it was hit by the other one, police said. 

Garland PD said both vehicles were carrying three people. The five who survived the crash were taken to a local hospital. Police said their ages ranged from 16 to 22 years old. Details about any additional injuries were not immediately clear. 

According to Garland PD, investigators found evidence of alcohol, however, the investigation is ongoing and detectives are working to determine the cause of the crash and whether or not impairment played a role.
