Officer injured, suspect on the run after shooting in Bryan

   

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -A Bryan police officer was shot Saturday night while investigating a report of an armed suspect at an apartment complex, according to a statement from the department.

The shooting happened around 8:01 p.m. at the Sandy Creek Apartments in the 1800 block of Sandy Point Road. Police say the officer saw a known suspect displaying a handgun with three other individuals in the complex.

As the officer approached, police say the suspect opened fire through a vehicle, hitting the officer once in an extremity. The officer was treated at a local medical facility and has since been released.

According to police, the suspect ran into a nearby wooded area, prompting a large search effort involving Bryan police and surrounding law enforcement agencies. Police say they have detained a suspect, and say there is no active threat or danger to the public.

The Bryan Police Department thanked the community and assisting agencies for their support in the investigation.
