AUSTIN (KXAN) — A young Texas cancer survivor got what many might consider the honor of a lifetime — when he was sworn in as an honorary member of the Secret Service during Tuesday night’s Presidential address.
Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel, 13, has been on a mission to be sworn in as an honorary police officer at law enforcement agencies since 2018 — when he was diagnosed with terminal brain and spine cancer.
“The doctors gave him five months, at most, to live. That was more than six years ago. Since that time, DJ and his dad have been on a quest to make his dream come true,” President Donald Trump said.
Since then, he has more than achieved his initial goal of 100. Back in 2022, KXAN covered his swearing in at five Central Texas law enforcement agencies.
Now, DJ has taken an honorary oath at one of the country’s highest levels: the United States Secret Service.

During President Donald Trump’s address to the joint session of Congress, the president took a moment to honor DJ and all his accomplishments.
“We’re going to do you the biggest honor of them all. I am asking our new Secret Service director, Sean Curran, to officially make you an agent of the United States secret Service. Thank you, DJ” Trump said.
DJ’s eyes widened at the announcement as his father held him aloft and Curran handed him a badge. He held it in the air and gave Curran a hug.
