Grassfire on Safety Steel Drive near Yorktown Boulevard

   

Firefighters are working to push this fire away from a nearby neighborhood.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — UPDATE: The Corpus Christi Fire Department has been battling a grassfire on Safety Steele Drive near Yorktown Boulevard and Cattlemen Drive, first reported around 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The Texas A&M Forest Service website is reporting the fire has claimed about 60 acres and is about 80- percent contained.  

CCFD, the Nueces County Emergency Services Districts No. 1 and No. 2, and the Texas Forest Service are on-site using heavy equipment to try and keep the fire from spre ading into nearby neighborhoods.

At this time, it is unclear if the power in the area will be impacted

As of 4:17 p.m. there has been no damage to structures or injuries reported among firefighters or residents, the city of Corpus Christi stated in a news release.

Asst. CCFD Chief Billy Belyeu told 3NEWS early Wednesday that crews do not know the cause of the fire, but it was not related to the fire that broke out on in the 6600 block Yorktown Boulevard on Tuesday. 

No structures are in danger at this time, according to CCFD. It’s confined to just open fields behind the neighborhood.
