VP Vance discusses border crossings during Eagle Pass visit

EAGLE PASS, Texas – Vice President JD Vance visited the Texas-Mexico border and met with law enforcement officials on Wednesday.

The Associated Press stated that Vance also participated in an aerial tour as part of a trip meant to highlight President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

Vance was joined by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. After viewing the Eagle Pass area, the trio visited a Border Patrol detention facility before participating in a roundtable discussion with local and national participants.

The visit was scheduled a day after Trump’s first joint address to Congress in his second term.

During a question-and-answer session with reporters on Wednesday, Vance shared Trump’s hope to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border “by the end of the term.”

Vance also touted a dramatic decrease in border crossings in Eagle Pass, specifically. According to the Houston Chronicle, which cited U.S. Immigration and Customs, approximately 3,500 border crossings were reported in January at the Del Rio sector, which includes Eagle Pass.

Trump last visited Eagle Pass in February 2024 where he discussed the state-federal clash on the issue of border security.

Vance’s visit made him the highest-ranking official to visit the border town during Trump’s second administration.
