SAN ANTONIO — The Denton Guyer Wildcats claimed their first UIL Class 6A Division II state championship Saturday, defeating Katy Jordan 48-47.
This win marked the end of a historic run for the Wildcats as this was the program’s first appearance in the tournament. It was fitting for the run to end with them hoisting the trophy. They join Mansfield Summit , another North Texas team that won a state title in its first appearance in the finals.
Guyer’s junior shooting guard Silas Rodriguez earned the MVP award of the game as he scored 20 points on 18 shot attempts, shooting 4-9 from beyond the arch.
