More than 6,000 Oncor customers without power as high winds hit North Texas

High winds and dry conditions Friday have triggered a red flag warning in North Texas.

PALO PINTO, Texas — Several thousand Oncor customers are without power Friday as high winds hit North Texas.

Oncor said in a Facebook post that it was closely monitoring the system that is bringing high winds to much of its service area Friday and said that employees would respond to any outages as soon as it was safe to do so.

As of 4:30 p.m. Friday, about 4,700 customers were affected by power outages across North Texas, most of which were in the more western counties, according to Oncor’s outage map.

Below is a list of each affected county as of 4:30 p.m.:

“Reported wind gusts so far range between 50-65 mph, especially in western counties,” Oncor said in a Facebook post. “Strong winds will continue & could reach up to 60 mph in North & Central Texas. Western counties could see gusts as high as 80 mph this afternoon into the evening. These conditions continue to contribute to extreme fire danger risks for a majority of the state.”
