Gov. Greg Abbott celebrated Texas’ position as the leading state in job creation, following the release of January employment data by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
From Jan. 2024 to Jan. 2025, the state added 187,700 nonfarm jobs, both figures surpassing those of any other state. Texas added another 27,900 nonfarm jobs in January of 2025.

Abbott attributed this success to the state’s skilled workforce and business-friendly environment, which attract businesses from diverse industries nationwide and globally. He also highlighted initiatives such as the Governor’s Small Business Freedom Council and the prioritization of career training in the legislative session as key factors in this growth.
“Texas is America’s jobs engine, adding more new jobs in the last year than any other state,” Governor Abbott said in a statement announcing the results of the BLS report.
He also announced that Texas has set new records for total jobs, the number of Texans employed, and the size of the labor force. Earlier this month, Texas was awarded the Governor’s Cup for the 13th consecutive year, recognizing it as the top state for job-creating business location and expansion projects.
