Texas topped the country for speeding-related deaths in 2022 and has two of the most dangerous roadways in the U.S. for speeding, according to a new study.
DALLAS — According to new research, a major North Texas highway is among the top five most dangerous roads for speeding in the country.
The study found Texas also led the country with the most speeding-related deaths with 1,371 deaths in 2022, followed by California with 1,269, and North Carolina with 598.
However, Arizona, South Carolina, and Wyoming had the most speeding-related deaths per vehicle mile traveled.
The study found that while crashes caused by speeding have gradually dropped nationally since 2013, nearly one in three fatal crashes involve speeding, and speeding-related traffic deaths have risen.
Since 2019, speeding-related driving deaths have risen in the US by nearly 25%, accounting for roughly one-third of all traffic deaths.
The study from truckinfo.net used 2022 speeding crash statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration with 2022 population data sourced from the U.S. Census Bureau.
