Dr. Sylvia Trent-Adams was paid $560,000 in exchange for her voluntary resignation, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.
FORT WORTH, Texas — The University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth paid its now former President $560,000 in return for her resignation, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Dr. Sylvia Trent-Adams signed a mutual termination and release agreement on Jan. 30 and voluntarily resigned from her position as president, according to public documents obtained by the Star-Telegram. She officially resigned Jan. 31, WFAA previously reported.
As a condition of the payout, Trent Adams agreed to resign and release the school “from any and all claims and potential claims,” the Star-Telegram reported.
Neither the UNT Health Science Center nor Trent-Adams has publicly commented on why she resigned. However, the announcement came after an NBC News investigation found that UNT Health Science Center’s willed body program used bodies for research or training without consent from families, WFAA previously reported.
UNTHSC received more than 2,000 unclaimed bodies since 2019 under agreements with Tarrant and Dallas Counties, the investigation found. At least 12 people’s bodies were given to the school unbeknownst to families, NBC News found.
As a result of the investigation, the UNT Health Science Center suspended the willed body program and Tarrant and Dallas counties ended their contracts with the school, WFAA previously reported. The center also previously fired program leadership.
Trent Adams was hired by UNT HSC in 2022.
“Both as President and previously as Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, Dr. Trent-Adams served HSC and its students with dedication, integrity, and respect,” the UNT Board of Regents’ said in a statement after announcing the resignation.
