AAA: Gas prices in Texas up slightly

AUSTIN (KXAN) — In a report published Thursday, AAA said gas prices across Texas were up slightly week-to-week.

The statewide price average for regular unleaded fuel is $2.80 per gallon, which is about 40 cents less than the national average of $3.21.

AAA said drivers in the Austin-San Marcos area are paying $2.90 per gallon.

According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), last week’s gasoline demand measured at 9.6 million barrels per day, which has been the highest number reported so far this year.

“Gas prices increased as demand for fuel reached 2024 highs and supply reached 2024 lows,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson. “This recent change in demand and supply was likely caused by fuel buying in the southeast ahead of Hurricane Milton. Typically, if prices increase due to a hurricane they will usually come back down within a few weeks.”
