Affidavit: Man arrested in connection to road rage shooting says his friend ‘Money’ fired fatal shot

BEXAR COUNTY, TexasUPDATE on 3/9: The man arrested in connection to a March 7 road rage shooting says his friend “Money” fired the fatal shot, according to an arrest affidavit.

Sean Anthony Samaniego, 34, is linked to the March 7 road rage incident that escalated into a fatal shooting, the sheriff’s office said Sunday.

When deputies arrived at the Valero Gas Station near the intersection of U.S. Highway 181 South and East Loop 1604 South, they found a male, later identified as Octavian Estrada, on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest, according to an arrest affidavit.

Estrada later died at the scene.

As of Sunday afternoon, the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has not identified Estrada or his cause and manner of death.

Witnesses told deputies they heard two gunshots and saw a dark truck with a trailer attached leaving the scene.

According to the arrest affidavit, surveillance footage where the shooting occurred showed Estrada in a white sedan park next to Samaniego’s dark blue Chevrolet truck and approach him.

The footage shows an occupant inside the truck shooting at Estrada and the truck driving away, the affidavit said.

Samaniego told investigators a white Cadillac sedan had been “brake-checking him” as he traveled from Floresville to San Antonio, the affidavit said.

Samaniego said his friend, who he only knows as “Money,” was sitting in the passenger seat of the truck, rolled down the front passenger door window and fired the shots, the affidavit said.

Samaniego also told investigators he could hear Estrada yelling but couldn’t understand him.

“Sean (Samaniego) said, ‘Money,’ retrieved a revolver from his waistband, and shot out the window. Sean said, ‘Money,’ shot a second time, striking (sic) Octavian (Estrada),” the affidavit said.

The affidavit said Samaniego watched Estrada fall to the ground and left the location.

The sheriff’s office noted Samaniego refused to cooperate with investigators.

After leaving the crime scene, Samaniego said he dropped off “Money” on the side of New Sulphur Springs Road, the affidavit said.

Samaniego said he then removed the trailer from his truck “because he knew law enforcement would be looking for him,” the affidavit said.

The trailer was later found, and Samaniego confirmed to the sheriff’s office that it was his.

A warrant was issued for Samaniego’s arrest on charges of tampering with evidence related to the murder investigation, and he was booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center, the sheriff’s office said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
