Aggies set single-season home run record, advance to Super Regional

   

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Texas A&M’s bats came alive again and Aggie baseball beat Louisiana 9-4 in the Bryan-College Station Regional Final Sunday night at Olsen Field.

The Aggies advance to the Super Regionals for the second time in three years and will host Oregon next weekend.

Ali Camarillo’s solo shot in the seventh inning set the record for most home runs by the Aggies in a season with 129. The record-breaker put the Maroon and White up 7-1.

The Aggies hit five home runs, their first multi-home run game this regional and most in a game since a 19-9 win over Georgia on April 27th.

Gavin Grahovac hit a two-run bomb in the ninth inning to help seal the 9-1 victory. That was Grahovac’s 22nd home run of the year, breaking the A&M freshman single-season record.

Braden Montgomery was named the Bryan-College Station Regional MVP. He hit his 27th homer this year, a three-run shot in the fourth inning to give the Aggies a 5-1 advantage. Montgomery also started the scoring for the Aggies with an RBI single in the third inning.

Caden Sorrell hit a home run in the fourth inning, and Hayden Schott added a solo shot in the fifth.

The Ragin’ Cajuns scored three in the bottom of the ninth. Louisiana started its scoring with a Kyle DeBarge RBI double in the bottom of the third.

Shane Sdao got the start on the mound and finished with six strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Chris Cortez came into relief and threw six K’s in 2.2 innings. Brad Rudis ended the game with a strikeout.

The Aggies went a perfect 3-0 in the Bryan-College Station Regional with wins over every opponent, Grambling, Texas, and Louisiana.
