DALLAS — A Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) outage caused driver’s license offices to shut down statewide early on Monday, officials said.

According to a statement Monday afternoon, the DPS was “experiencing an outage” that affected driver license offices across the state. The offices had to shut down for the rest of the day.

While the specific cause of the outage was unclear, the Texas DPS website appeared to be down on Monday afternoon.

DPS staffers worked with customers to reschedule their appointments “as quickly as possible.”

Driver license officers were already scheduled to be closed Tuesday, on New Year’s Eve, and Wednesday, on New Year’s Day. They’ll re-open Thursday, Jan. 2.
