A&M-Commerce names new graduate assistant volleyball coach

COMMERCE — Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball coach Joe Morales has announced the hiring of Rich Rosales as the program’s graduate assistant coach going into the 2024 season.

Rosales has spent the past seven years at the Incarnate Word Academy in Corpus Christi, holding many roles, including being the high school’s head volleyball coach since 2021. In the 2023 season, the team made the longest run in the state playoffs in school history, falling short in the regional round, a win away from making the state tournament.

“We are excited to have Rich join our staff,” said Morales. “He will bring a fresh perspective with his volleyball knowledge and connection to the club world which will be valuable in recruiting. He is a great addition that can be put in any aspect of coaching and positions and excel with it. He will hit the ground running with recruiting and our program and we cannot wait to start working with him. He has already taken off working the camp circuit in Texas.”

The Incarnate Word volleyball program also had its first all-state honoree in the 2023 season.

Rosales has also worked as a softball assistant coach for three years with the team winning two district championships and also advanced to the state semifinals.

“I am more than excited to hit the ground running with Joe and Morgan (Williams),” said Rosales. “I have a history with both of coaches and I am excited to see what we can achieve together throughout these next few seasons here at A&M-Commerce. Joe is well-known and well-respected by many, and Morgan brings such a positive energy into every gym and room she is in. The environment that these two can create is something I am looking forward to being a part of and learning from. Go Lions.”

Over the past nine years, Rosales has also worked with the Corpus Christi Force Volleyball Club as an assistant director of the club and director of training and recruiting as well. With the CC Force, he also served as head coach for teams between the ages of 15-18.

Rosales began his career in collegiate volleyball at his alma mater and fellow Southland Conference program, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. With the Islanders, he was a practice player and volunteer assistant coach for the indoor and beach volleyball programs. He was also heavily involved with the Rec Center.

A native of Granbury, Rosales received his bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in history from A&M-Corpus Christi and is pursuing a Master’s of Kinesiology with a Sport Coaching emphasis from A&M-Commerce.
