A&M men’s golf draws 4-seed at the Stanford Regional

   

INDIANAPOLIS, IndianaThe No. 19 Texas A&M men’s golf team heads to California to open NCAA Tournament play, earning a spot in the Stanford Regional which will be contested May 13-15.

The Aggies claimed the No. 4 seed in the 14-team regional played at the par-70, 6,727-yard Stanford Golf Course.

Texas A&M is making its 49th NCAA postseason appearance, including spots in 20 of the last 21 regionals. The NCAA has hosted regionals since 1989 and the Maroon & White have earned 31 trips in that span.

The Aggies are one of three SEC teams in the field joined by Ole Miss and Missouri. Four teams hail from the west coast, including host Stanford along with UCLA, Fresno State and Sacramento State. Florida State is the regional’s No. 1 seed followed by Ole Miss, Illinois and Texas A&M. The other combatants include SMU, UNLV, August, Liberty and Siena.

The top five teams at each of the NCAA’s six regionals advance to the NCAA Championship at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California. The national championship is slated for May 24-29.

Texas A&M is in the midst of a successful 2023-24 campaign. The Maroon & White won the Louisiana Classics for the third consecutive year. The Aggies have finished in the top three at four tournaments on the season and advanced to the semifinal round of the SEC Championship.

Two Aggies have captured individual medalist honors on. Phichaksn Maichon equaled Sam Bennett’s tournament record 18-under 198 to win the Louisiana Classics. Jaime Montojo sank a 35-foot on the final hole of the Aggie Invitational to share top honors. Most recently, Daniel Rodrigues claimed runner-up status at the SEC Championship.

Stanford Golf Course overlooks the campus from the nearby foothills. It has hosted a potpourri of prestigious golf events, including U.S. Open qualifying, NCAA Women’s Championships, NCAA Regionals, Pac-12 Championships and USGA Junior Amateur qualifying.
