The 11th-ranked Texas A&M softball team was beating Ole Miss on Saturday afternoon, but couldn’t beat the weather as the game was called in the fifth inning with the Aggies leading 7-2.
Action in the second game of their Southeastern Conference series will resume at noon Sunday with the finale to follow 30 minutes after the end of the suspended game. The Rebels will have the bases loaded with two outs and a 2-0 count on Lexie Brady with graduate right-hander Shaylee Ackerman in the circle for the Aggies.
A&M (35-9, 13-6) won the series opener 5-2 on Friday night, handing Ole Miss (25-20, 3-13) its 10th straight league loss.
The Aggies on Saturday scored three runs in the first and three more in the fourth.
All A&M’s runs on Friday were unearned, because of three Ole Miss errors and two passed balls. Ole Miss was again in a giving mode Saturday as A&M had only one hit in the first inning, a leadoff homer by sophomore Amari Harper. Junior Kramer Eschete and graduate Jazmine Hill both walked and came around to score.

In the fourth inning, A&M again had only one hit, a two-run single by senior Julie Cottrill. A third run scored on the play because of a throwing error. The Aggies loaded the bases with two outs on three straight walks.
A&M also scored an unearned run in the third. Eschete reached on an error, stole second and scored on a Cottrill single.
Ole Miss scored its first run on Aynslie Furbush’s home run in the second. The Rebels in the fifth made Ackerman pay for walking three batters with Jaden Pone delivering an RBI single before the game was suspended.
Ackerman allowed only two hits, but walked five and struck out three.
Furbush and Brianna Lopez pitched for Ole Miss. They combined to allow seven walks with two strikeouts. The Rebels allowed three unearned runs.
A&M, which is in second place in the SEC, picked up a half game on leader Tennessee (33-8, 13-4), which lost to LSU 1-0. It also gained a half game on third-place Florida (36-10, 11-6), which lost to South Carolina.
• No. 14 Alabama 5, No. 16 Arkansas 1: FAYETTEVILE, Ark. – Alabama’s Jenna Johnson highlighted a five-run fifth inning with a three-run homer as Alabama (31-11, 8-9) snapped a three-game losing streak and evened the series. Arkansas (31-12, 10-7) scored in the first inning, but Alabama’s Jocelyn Briski (7-2) pitched a complete game, striking out three and walking one.
• South Carolina 6, No. 10 Florida 2: GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Four home runs helped South Carolina (30-16, 6-11) evening the series. Jen Cummings, Denver Bryant, Zoe Laneaux and Aniyah Black all hit homers as Alana Vawter (13-8) threw a complete game.
Reagan Walsh hit a homer for Florida (36-10, 11-6).
• No. 7 LSU 1, No. 4 Tennessee 0: KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Raeleen Gutierrez hit a home run and Kelley Lynch pitched a five-hitter as LSU (35-9, 11-9) evened the series. Lynch (6-1) threw her sixth shutout of the season.
LSU head coach Beth Torina won her 527th game with the Tigers, becoming the program’s leader by passing Yvette Girouard (526).
Tennessee (33-8, 13-4) did not record an out at first base.
• No. 9 Georgia 4-4, No. 13 Missouri 2-2: ATHENS, Ga. – The Bulldogs swept a doubleheader as Sydney Chambley had a two-run homer and a triple in the opener. Georgia (36-11, 10-8) won the series after losing on Friday. Lilli Backes (14-5) got a save in the opener and a complete game in the nightcap.
Missouri (35-13, 8-10) outhit the Bulldogs 15-10 in the twin bill.
• No. 23 Kentucky 5, Auburn 2: AUBURN, Ala. – Peyton Plotts hit a three-run homer and Taylor Ebbs added a two-run shot as Kentucky (28-15, 6-10) rallied past Auburn (23-14, 5-11) in the series opener. The game lasted just over 6 hours, 30 minute, because of several lightning delays and a rain delay.
Kentucky’s Stephanie Schoonover and Jaden Vickers combined on a one-hitter.
Auburn scored twice in the third thank to a pair of throwing errors by Kentucky.
