A&M Texarkana to build new $45M academic building

TEXARKANA, Texas – State funding is paving the way for new construction at Texas A&M Texarkana.

The university is planning to build a new $45 million Academic Building which will house business, engineering, and technology programs.

The three-story, 50,000 square-foot facility will be located on the southwest side of the university campus. It will connect the existing Science & Technology Building via walkways on the second and third floors.

The Academic Building will house the Center for Financial Literacy and Investment, and a number of labs for mechanical engineering and design. It will also include a 225-seat auditorium to support large lectures and other events.

University officials say there’s a growing demand for degrees in business and technology-related fields.

“It will allow us to grow the programs we already have, but there’s also about 15 new degree programs at the baccalaureate and masters level in business, engineering and technology that will launch in the next one to three years,” said TAMU-T President Ross Alexander.

A ground-breaking ceremony will be held on May 30. Construction begins in June.
