Despite ugly weather, the Texas A&M track and field teams finished its final home meet in the Alumni Muster with 17 event wins on Saturday, April 20 at E.B. Cushing Stadium. The men are ranked No. 1 for the fourth week, while the women are ranked No. 2 for the third-straight week. The Aggies also honored 25 seniors during the meet.
Senior Julian Stoicoviciu earned the first win for the Aggies in the men’s javelin with a toss of 63.04 meters. The women completed the sweep in the javelin, with freshman McKenzie Fairchild winning first, tossing 49.34 meters.
Sophomore Jack Mann III had his best performance in the men’s pole vault, leaping 5.36 meters, and senior Sevanna Hanson secured first for the women’s side, clearing 4.05 meters. Freshman Carlie Weiser had a double-win in the women’s discus, tossing 54.62 meters, and the women’s shot-put, with a mark of 14.89 meters. Both throws broke the Alumni Muster meet records.
The final field win went to red-shirt senior Timara Chapman, leaping 6.27 meters in the women’s long jump and marking her at No. 12 on the all-time performance list for the Aggies.
In track events, the men’s 4×100 meter relay of red-shirt junior Isaiah Teer, senior Devante Mount, freshman Omarion Ferguson, and red-shirt sophomore Keanu Jones took first with a time of 40.74 seconds. Both the men’s and women’s 4×400 relay teams secured a pair of wins with senior Jevon O’Bryant, junior Cutler Zamzow, red-shirt junior Auhmad Robinson, and sophomore Demarco Escobar with a time of 3 minutes and 7.16 seconds for the men. The women’s line-up of red-shirt junior Jaydan Wood, senior Jermaisha Arnold, red-shirt sophomore Bailey Goggans and junior Kennedy Wade took first in a time of 3:42.08 minutes.
Zamzow secured a second win in the men’s 200 meters, running 21.37 seconds. Junior Kimar Farquharson claimed his second-straight win in the men’s 800-meters, clocking in at 1:47.26 minutes. Junior Victor Kibiego added a win for the Aggies in the men’s 1500 meters, running 3:50.28 minutes.
The Aggies claimed all three hurdle events, starting with fifth-year senior Connor Schulman in his final home meet, winning the 110-meter hurdles at a time of 13.62 seconds. Sophomore Jaiya Covington finished first in the women’s 100-meter hurdles at 13.58 seconds, and red-shirt junior Kirk Collins, Jr. won the men’s 400-meter hurdles at 53.03 seconds.
The men’s and women’s 3000-meter steeplechase closed out the Aggie wins with all three breaking meet records. Red-shirt freshman Emma Little moved up in the all-time performers list to No. 9 with a personal best time of 10:45.99 minutes. Senior Jonathan Chung finished his final home meet and secured the final win for the Aggies at 9:04.89 minutes.
The A&M track and field team will split into two squads for the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the Corky/Crofoot Shootout in Lubbock.
