MIAMI — Fort Worth-based American Airlines has suspended its daily service from Miami to Haiti after one of its planes was “impacted by a bullet,” according to an airline spokesperson.
American Airlines told WFAA in an email that a Nov. 11 flight from Toussaint Louverture International Airport (PAP) in Haiti to Miami International Airport (MIA) had landed safely, and a post-flight inspection indicated “the exterior of the aircraft had been impacted by a bullet.”
American Airlines said it is working closely with all relevant authorities to investigate the incident. The Fort Worth-based airline also said the flight from Miami to Haiti has been suspended for three months – through Feb. 12, 2025.
“We will continue to monitor the situation with safety and security top of mind and will adjust our operation as needed,” the airline spokesperson concluded.
There were no reported injuries from the flight, American Airlines told WFAA.
That wasn’t the case with a Spirit Airlines flight that was headed to the same airport, however.
On the same day, Nov. 11, a flight attendant was injured after a plane – which had taken off from Fort-Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport with Port-au-Prince as its destination – was struck by gunfire. The Spirit Airlines flight was diverted to Cibao International Airport in the Dominican Republic, where it landed safely. A flight attendants union confirmed that a flight attendant suffered minor injuries from “debris” during the incident. Spirit said no passengers were injured.
