There have been so many people who have broken themselves over their hatred of/obsession with President Donald Trump.
Among those was psychiatrist Dr. Bandy Lee who claimed that Trump and some of his supporters were mentally ill, even though she had never personally examined him or them. But that of course served the Trump obsession on the left and made her a popular guest on liberal news networks like MSNBC. She made nutty statements including that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) could have Trump involuntary held for an examination.
Lee told Salon that “As a co-worker, she has the right to have him submit to an involuntary evaluation, but she has not. I am beginning to believe that a mental health hold, which we have tried to avoid, will become inevitable.”
She also complained about the “contagion” of Trump’s mental state.
It got her a lot of criticism, rightfully so, because the American Psychiatric Association prohibits professional opinions about people psychiatrists have not examined. And it’s more than a little dangerous when you have people trying to use psychiatric examinations against their political opponents — it smacks of the Soviet Union, in addition to having no validity in this case.
Lee used to have an unpaid appointment at Yale University. After attorney Alan Dershowitz complained about her after she made an “evaluation” of him, claiming he had a “shared psychosis” with Trump, she was terminated and she sued for unlawful termination, saying that it violated her right to free speech.
“I think her own words prove that she acted unprofessionally, in violation of academic standards and in violation of the rules of psychiatry,” Dershowitz told the New Haven Register last year.
“I also think that it is unethical to falsely diagnose somebody whom she hasn’t met for political and ideological reasons.”
Yale department head Dr. John Krystal warned in a letter to Lee after the complaint from Dershowitz: “The recklessness of your comments creates the appearance that they are self-serving in relation to your personal political beliefs and other possible personal aspirations,” her lawsuit stated.
The reason the school said she was eventually let go was due to lack of a formal teaching role, the New Haven Register reported.
Now, US District Judge Sarah Merriam has ruled against Lee, dismissing the case. The judge sided with the university. She said that it was a voluntary position and Yale had the right not to reappoint Lee if they didn’t want to after they no longer had confidence in her professionalism.
While Lee wasn’t getting paid, what she’s upset about is that she loses that Yale connection that might have helped to get her gigs and perks. So once again, rather than taking out Trump, you have someone who managed to skewer herself in the process. It’s kind of funny at this point because they just keep trying and always declaring that the “walls are closing in.” But they always just expose themselves to the issues they have. We even see Joe Biden trying to do this now by declaring MAGA people somehow a threat, and that backfired so badly he had to backpedal on his despicable speech by the next morning.
They’re not going to stop trying, but sometimes it’s nice when a little sanity and justice seem to prevail, as it did here. Extra sweet? The liberal tears over the fact that her case was dismissed.
