An arctic blast brought record-setting cold temperatures to North Texas this week.
DALLAS — DFW set a new daily record for coldest temperature Thursday.
Temperatures dropped into the teens Wednesday and Thursday morning.
While Wednesday morning’s record was safe, the afternoon temperatures reached a new record. DFW’s high of 28F Wednesday afternoon broke the old record for coldest high temperature of 31F set back in 2006.
Thursday morning’s low of 12F was not only the coldest temperature of the season, but it also broke a daily record for coldest temperature. The previous record cold low was 19F from 1939 and DFW easily broke that. It came along with dry air, 20-25 mph wind gusts, and a wind chill of 5 below zero.
We are not done with records…Thursday afternoon highs could also break records! The current daily record for the coldest high temperature is 35F set in 1904. The forecast calls for highs to stay below freezing. Specifically, 31F for DFW.
Friday’s high temperature could tie the record for the coldest high temperature at 37F which was set in 1911.
The arctic blast led to WFAA Weather Alert Days until 1 p.m. Friday when temperatures are finally expected to climb above freezing.
