According to officials, the suspect died at the scene.
GRAYSON COUNTY, Texas — The Texas Rangers are investigating after a 32-year-old man was shot and killed by a deputy with the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office during a disturbance call on Thursday evening.
According to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a family disturbance involving an armed individual at a home in the 400 block of Bonham Street at about 11:10 p.m. Upon arrival, GCSO said deputies encountered Nathan Edwards, 32, who was armed.
The sheriff’s office said that during the encounter, “actions taken by Edwards resulted in one of our deputies discharging their firearm,” though it did not disclose what those actions were. Edwards was struck by gunfire, and deputies rendered aid, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff’s office said his body was taken to the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
According to GCSO, the Texas Rangers have taken over the investigation per their policy.
“Our deputies are trained to handle difficult and dangerous situations, and they do so with professionalism and restraint,” GCSO said in the Facebook post. “No deputy ever wants an encounter to end in the use of deadly force—but they are prepared to protect themselves and others when required.”
The sheriff’s office asked for the community’s patience while the investigation is conducted.
