AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Wednesday night, artists across the state were celebrated at the Texas Medal of Arts Award at The Long Center for the Performing Arts.
The event celebrated 118 Texas leaders who helped pave the way and opened the doors for the next generation of artists through their creative talents, according to a press release.
The Texas Cultural Trust presented the 2025 honorees with their medals. The honorees included Dennis Quaid, Richard Linklater, Mercedes Bass and Sandy Duncan, among others.
The award show also included special performances and presentations from Terry Allen and family, Gary Clark Jr., and previous TMAA honoree Ray Benson, according to Texas Cultural Trust.
“When we bring all these artists together, all these great Texans, and they start sharing their talent and start riffing off each other it’s pretty cool,” Master of Ceremonies Chris Harrison said.
“It’s a once in a lifetime moment to get certain people on stage together and only the Texas Medal of Arts Awards is doing that,” Master of Ceremonies Lauren Zima said.
