ATLANTA (AZFamily) — Arizona State’s late-game comeback wasn’t quite enough to keep the team’s magical season alive.
After erasing a 16-point deficit in the fourth quarter, the Sun Devils fell to the Texas Longhorns 39-31 in double overtime at the Peach Bowl on New Year’s Day.
The game was tied 24-24 when the Longhorns missed a field goal in the final seconds of regulation, bouncing off the uprights and sending the game into overtime. Both teams scored touchdowns, sending the game to double OT.
Texas scored on its first possession, then went for two to go up 39-31. The Sun Devils didn’t reach the end zone this time.
ASU ends the season at 11-3, capping off one of the best years in program history. The Sun Devils, picked to finish last in the Big 12 preseason poll, instead rolled to capture the conference championship.
While the season came to a disappointing end, much of ASU’s core returns in 2025. Head coach Kenny Dillingham was also just signed to a five-year contract extension.
