As RedState reported, there was a shooting in Atlanta Wednesday afternoon. The shooter entered a medical office building and shot five people, killing one of them. He then fled the scene, leading to an area-wide manhunt.
The Atlanta Police Department quickly released surveillance video images of the shooter and soon after that, identified the gunman as 24-year-old Deion Patterson.
Patterson has now been apprehended.
At around 12:08 p.m., Deion Patterson, 24, allegedly shot at least five people, all women between the ages of 25 and 71, in an 11th floor waiting room at the Northside Hospital Midtown medical office, according to Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum. A 39-year-old woman was killed and pronounced dead at the scene.
Schierbaum said the vehicle Patterson allegedly stole was later recovered, but a gun has not yet been found. Police were following leads in parts of Cobb County that neighbor Atlanta late Wednesday afternoon, Schierbaum added.
Three of the victims in the Atlanta shooting remain in critical condition after undergoing medical procedures, a Grady Health System spokesperson told The Washington Post. The fourth patient is in stable condition. Police did not disclose if the victims were patients, employees or a mix.
While the motive is not yet clear, the location wasn’t random. Patterson apparently had an appointment in the medical office where the shooting occurred.
Atlanta Police Department spokesperson Chata Spikes said at a news conference that Patterson and his mother arrived Wednesday for a medical appointment for himself. The man at some point became angry for reasons that are unclear and started shooting a handgun, Spikes said.
RedState will continue to follow the story and provide updates as they become available.
