Leave it to Barbara Streisand to predictably have the wrong take on any given topic. In an X post on Wednesday, she weighed in on the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, and it was indeed the wrongest take that was ever wrongly taken.

Barbara Streisand has shared her theory about the assassination attempt made against Donald Trump—and she’s been criticized for it.
The attempt was made on Saturday afternoon, when Trump, the Republican 2024 presidential nominee, was speaking at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. After shots were fired, the former president was seen grabbing his right ear as security agents flocked to protect him. The gunman, identified by the FBI as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was shot and killed by the Secret Service.
As well as Trump being injured, a rally attendee was killed and two others were critically injured. The incident has raised questions as to how a 20-year-old gunman was able to climb onto a roof close to a leading presidential candidate and open fire on him with a .22-fitted AR-style rifle.
Streisand has now made comments about the incident, suggesting that the reason for Crooks’ assassination attempt is that the former president is a “bully.”

Barbara isn’t known for her vast intellect or her unerring grasp of logic, but this is a new low even for her. While she is raging on about Donald Trump’s almost dying, Trump is moving from triumph to triumph, and other liberal celebrities are expressing some respect for the former president, with even Mark Zuckerberg referring to Trump’s bouncing back from being shot as “bada**.”

A look at the replies to her X post is entertaining; I’m not terribly savvy with X-speak, but I believe this is what people refer to as being “ratioed into the next time zone.” This is, after all, one of those incidents that should transcend politics, and there have been some gracious comments from people on the left, although there have been some hateful attacks as well. But one would think a show business figure, one whose living depends on maintaining the goodwill of her audience, would know better.
But then Barbara Streisand never was all that good at knowing when the appropriate thing to say was nothing.

In 2023, Barbara Streisand, speaking to Stephen Colbert, threatened (as so many tiresome celebrities have done) to leave the country should Trump be re-elected.
In a 2023 interview with The Late Show host Stephen Colbert, the actor said she would have to leave the country if Trump became president again.
“I can’t live in this country if he becomes president,” she said.
When Colbert asked Streisand where she would move, she responded: “Probably England, I like England.”
She won’t, of course; they never do. But if she does, the only message I would send her would be, “Bye, don’t let the screen door hit you on your way out.”
