Barstool Sports’ Dave Portnoy reviews another Dallas slice, Cenzo’s Pizza & Deli

Portnoy, known for his One Bite Pizza Reviews, gave high marks to Cenzo’s Pizza & Deli, which opened earlier this year.

DALLAS — Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy added another DFW pizza spot to his collection of One Bite Pizza reviews.

Portnoy was recently in town for TX-OU weekend and reviewed State Fair foods, with very mixed success. While he was in town he also visited Fortune Son in Garland and Thunderbird Pies in Dallas. Fortunate Son got a relatively high rating, 8.1, making it Portnoy’s favorite pizza in the area.

Now, he’s added Cenzo’s Pizza & Deli located in west Dallas to the list. He also had quite the story to explain how he ended up at that particular pizzeria. He described how, after switching hotels in the middle of the night, he ended up in a room with pillows “like a rock… who wants to sleep like that?”

This trial led him to a local Mattress Firm where an employee recognized him and recommended he try Cenzo’s for his One Bite review.

Portnoy’s first impression of the pie was good, he pointed out a seemingly crispy crust and busy outdoor seating. He took yet another dig at the State Fair’s culinary scene before diving in.

“Here’s real food I’ve been eating crap all day,” Portnoy said.

The verdict: Good, flavorful, really good crust. Overall, he rated it a 7.6.

“Good recommendation from the guy at Mattress Firm, I tip my hat to you good sir,” Portnoy said.

Portnoy reviewed several other pizza places when the Mavericks faced the Celtics in the NBA Finals, including Pizza Leila, which he gave a 7.2 and the iconic Louie’s on Henderson Avenue, which earned a 7.6

Cenzo’s reacted to the visit on Instagram Saturday saying, “It would be nuts not to say we are now 100% the official pizza of Mattress Firm.”

The restaurant also made sure to note the pizza Portnoy tried is not officially on the menu, but if you stop by to ask for the cheese — the staff will know what you mean.
