Baylor Scott and White Health could end Blue Cross Blue Shield agreements in July

 

If the agreements aren’t modified by July 1, Baylor Scott & White Health’s physicians, hospitals, and facilities will be out-of-network for Blue Cross members.

DALLAS — Have Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance? Baylor Scott and White Health hospitals and facilities could soon be out of network for you if they don’t reach an agreement on changes to physician and hospital agreements by July 1.

Baylor Scott and White is the largest nonprofit health system in the state with 51 hospitals. Blue Cross Blue Shield is far and away the largest insurer in the state with nearly 25% of the market share. The next largest insurer, UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company, has about 10% of the market share, according to the Texas Department of Insurance .

“We are working to reach an agreement by July 1, 2024, so BCBSTX plan holders may continue to receive in-network coverage for care with our providers and facilities, including those that do not operate with the Baylor Scott & White Health name,” Baylor Scott and White Health says in a statement on its website. “You are our top priority, and we are working to minimize any potential disruptions.”

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas likewise says they hope to reach an agreement.

“We have a long and positive relationship with BSW and hope to reach an agreement. Our goal is to protect our members’ and customers’ access to quality care at affordable rates,” Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas says. “As a customer-owned health insurer founded in Texas almost 95 years ago, we are committed to serving our members by providing access to high-quality, cost-effective health care solutions. We are the only health plan offering access to coverage to individuals and employers in all 254 counties.”
