SAN ANTONIO – UPDATE (1/31/2025): A second man killed in a deadly wrong-way crash on the West Side has been identified.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office said Richard Belmonte, 32, died in the crash due to blunt force injuries. Belmonte’s death has been ruled an accident, officials said.

According to a San Antonio Police Department report, a driver in his 40s was seen just after 5 a.m. Sunday traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 90 near Southwest Loop 410.
Police said a person called 911 to report a crash in the area. When officers arrived, SAPD determined that the wrong-way driver crashed into a second vehicle driven by a man in his 30s. The driver of the second vehicle was identified as Belmonte.
The medical examiner’s office identified the wrong-way driver as Thomas Cuellar, 43, on Tuesday night.
Cuellar’s death was also ruled as an accident.

Thomas Cuellar, 43, died from blunt force injuries, the medical examiner’s office told KSAT. His death was ruled an accident.
Another driver was also killed in the crash, according to police. His identity has not yet been released.
ORIGINAL STORY: Two men died after a head-on collision involving a wrong-way driver, according to San Antonio police.
The incident happened around 5 a.m. Sunday along U.S. Highway 90 at Southwest Loop 410.
Several people called 911 to report a black pickup truck traveling east in the westbound lanes of Highway 90.
Shortly after, another person reported a crash between the black pickup truck and a grey SUV.
Upon arrival, police said officers had located a head-on collision involving the black pickup truck.
Authorities pronounced both drivers — one man in his 30s and another man in his 40s — dead on the scene, SAPD said.
It’s unclear if alcohol played a factor in the deadly crash, according to police.
The highway was shut down for several hours following the crash.
