The White House is lying their heads off about the bill proposed by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) to try to jack up the liberal base before the midterms. As I wrote earlier, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre refused to even not that the proposed restriction only came into effect after 15 weeks, just calling it a “nationwide ban” and refusing to say what number of weeks would be acceptable to Joe Biden.
But Biden proved how delusional and extreme he is on the subject during his remarks at a DNC Committee fundraiser, lying not just about what it says in Graham’s proposed bill, but lying about what the Catholic Church’s position on abortion is.
“Think about what these guys are talking about,” said Biden at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser in New York City, referring to the bill and its Republican supporters.
“No exceptions — rape, incest — no exceptions, regardless of age.” [….]
“Well, the good news is — for me, anyway — I’m going to be around at least for another two years, so he can pass or it not, I’m going to veto it. It’s not going to happen.”
He continued: “I happen to be a practicing Roman Catholic. My church doesn’t even make that argument now.”
The Graham proposal does have those exceptions — as Biden has to know. So Biden is just being completely dishonest, even at a DNC fundraiser. But he’s being dishonest, even to Democrats to make them as angry as possible to get out and vote in the midterms. It’s a crass and disgusting approach. Some “practicing Catholic.”
Biden is also lying his head off about the Catholic Church’s position when he claims that Graham’s proposal is more restrictive than the position of the Church.
The official catechism of the Roman Catholic Church says that “From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person – among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life.”
“Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable,” reads the catechism published by The Vatican, which does not reference situations of rape or incest.
Moreover, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has even endorsed Graham’s bill, which blows up Biden’s claim.
“I support your efforts with the ‘Protecting Pain-Capable Unborn Children from Late-Term Abortions Act’ to protect the right to life of unborn babies from 15 weeks’ gestation,” wrote Archbishop William E. Lori, chairman of the USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities, in a letter thanking Graham for his bill.
“The Catholic Church remains clear and consistent in asserting that true justice demands the right to life, the most basic human and civil right, for every child, from conception onward,” Lori said. “No person or government has the right to take the life of any innocent human being, regardless of its stage of development.” Lori also added that the USCCB “strongly agree[s] that there is a federal role for protecting unborn human life.”
Some Catholics were outraged by Biden’s statements.
“This may be the most outrageous thing Joe Biden has ever said,” said CatholicVote President Brian Burch regarding Biden’s comment about what the Church teaches. Burch pointed out that the president was essentially arguing that the Catholic Church, for the first time in its history, now endorses abortions in some cases. [….]
“President Biden cannot be both a devout Catholic and a pro-abortion zealot,” tweeted Bishop Thomas Tobin of the Diocese of Providence, RI on Friday. “The two are mutually exclusive. He is a poor, lost and confused soul. Truly, we need to pray for him….”
“We need to pray for [President Biden] because by his words and actions he manifests at best extreme confusion on basic Catholic moral teaching and at worst the scandalous obstinacy of one steeped in grave sin at odds with Eucharistic coherency,” added Bishop Michael Olson of the Diocese of Fort Worth, TX.
Biden has no shame at all at this point with doing anything he can to help the Democrats hold onto power, even if it means lying about the Church’s position. But in the effort to rile up the base, he revealed just how extreme he and the Democrats are and has likely riled up Catholics — a powerful voting bloc into the bargain.
