Remember monkeypox? Given how quickly the panic involving the transmissible disease came and went, you may not, but back in 2022, the panic got so bad that California declared a state of emergency. Further, the White House decided to appoint a monkeypox czar. He’s a controversial figure, to say the least.
Demetre Daskalakis is his name, and he has a checkered history, having served as Deputy Commissioner of New York’s Division of Disease Control. Apparently, he did such a great job formulating one of the worst COVID responses in the country that he earned a job in the White House overseeing the nation’s response to monkeypox. Failing up continues to be the name of the game inside the beltway. Is it any wonder the country has declined to the point it’s at?
Regardless, to put it lightly, Daskalakis really doesn’t seem to understand what his job is. Either that or he understands exactly what his job is and the Biden administration is even more demented than I thought.
Before we get to his latest comments, though, just who is Daskalakis? Well, he’s a guy who speaks at “kink” conventions after being escorted onto the stage by two naked men while he dons bondage gear. So yeah, he’s very on-brand for the current White House (see: Sam Brinton), and since assuming his role, he’s spent most of his time trying to “destigmatize” gay orgies as opposed to promoting public health. He did that again on Sunday in a disturbing interview on MSNBC.
Aren’t you glad your tax dollars are paying for this stuff?
Now, I don’t have a doctorate like Daskalakis does, but I’m pretty certain that risk is just risk. Something does not cease to be risky nor decline in its degree of risk just because someone enjoys it. To provide an off-the-wall example, let’s say I enjoy skydiving without a reserve parachute. No matter how much “joy” it brings me to do something so dumb, the risk involved is innate and unchangeable.
The fact that Daskalakis and others in whatever community he purports to belong to like to have public sex with anonymous people at festivals does not change the fact that such behavior is objectively grotesque and dangerous. If the Biden administration actually cared about helping people, they’d say that out loud instead of hiring an activist to promote behavior that leads to a higher risk of contracting monkeypox.
This is part of the issue the nation is currently facing. Common sense is no longer allowed to exist. You aren’t supposed to say that LGBT orgies on “Friday night” are bad because that’s supposedly part of the LGBT identity (though, I know plenty of gay people who would disagree). To do so makes you a “bigot” in the eyes of the broader left and the mainstream press. With that said, we should all reject that notion. It’s okay to be normal and to promote normalcy. It’s also okay to call out dangerous, degenerate behavior. You may take some heat, but you’ll be able to live with yourself in the end.
