BREAKING: 3 Dead, Including Shooter, in Madison, Wisconsin School Shooting (Updated)

Reports now indicate the suspected shooter was a female student at the school.

Law enforcement and Madison officials held a second press conference Monday afternoon and provided the following key information in addition to offering their heartfelt condolences and words of support for the victims, their families, and their communities and gratitude to the first responders.

Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes spoke first and shared the following information:

  • At 10:57 a.m., the team received a call from Abundant Life Christian School in reference to an active shooter.
  • At present, there are three dead, including the suspect shooter, who was a teenage student — they are not releasing any additional information on the shooter at this time.
  • The two others killed include a teacher and a teenage student.
  • The shooting was confined to a single space.
  • The shooter was dead upon their arrival and no officers fired their weapons.
  • There were six others injured — this includes two students in critical condition with life-threatening injuries and four students at area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
  • The motive is unknown at this time. 
  • They have made contact with the shooter’s family; a search of the home is either ongoing or has been concluded. 
  • The school building/property have been cleared.
  • The reunification process for students and parents/family is ongoing.
  • The weapon used was a handgun. 

The other officials who spoke included Fire Chief Chris Carbon, Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, and County Executive Melissa Agard.

Update – 3:25 p.m. Eastern:

Contrary to earlier reports, authorities now assert that three were killed in the shooting (including the shooter) rather than five. Authorities are set to hold another press conference shortly. RedState will provide further updates as they become available.

Authorities are now saying five were killed in this morning’s shooting.

Police believe the shooter was a student at the school and is now among the dead. At least seven others have been transported to a medical facility for treatment, per previous reports. Below, you can find our original story.

Police in Madison, Wisconsin are investigating a school shooting that took place late Monday morning.

The shooting took place at Abundant Life Christian in Madison. Three people are dead, including the shooter, Madison police are now confirming.

In a press update held early Monday afternoon, Madison police confirmed the shooter was a juvenile. Seven people have been transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

The school is attended by students from kindergarten to 12th grade.
