Federal Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart ordered that a redacted version of the affidavit that led to the execution of a search warrant on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-A-Lago residence be released Friday morning.
“On or before noon Eastern time on Friday, August 26, 2022, the Government shall file in the public docket a version of the Affidavit containing the redactions proposed in ECF No. 89-1,” Reinhart wrote, according to Fox News anchor Shannon Bream.
“Based on my independent review of the Affidavit, I further find that the Government has met its burden of showing that its proposed redactions are narrowly tailored to serve the Government’s legitimate interest in the integrity of the ongoing investigation,” the judge continued.
According to The Washington Post, the Department of Justice wanted specific redactions to be made before releasing the document, which Reinhart seemed to agree with.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation executed a search warrant pertaining to classified documents in the president’s possession on Aug. 8. The search warrant itself has already been unsealed, but it did not provide much reasoning into why the search occurred.
