The LSU football programs defensive backfield continues to load-up on stellar prospects as class of 2025 defensive back Kade Phillips has announced he’s flipped his commitment from Texas to LSU.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound prospect from Missouri City (TX) Hightower committed to Texas in early July but LSU’s Corey Raymond and staff continued pursuit.
“I had a great time at LSU spending time with (cornerback) Coach (Corey) Raymond and getting to talk with all the coaches,” Phillips told TigerBait after his visit to LSU in June. “I like him. We have a great relationship, and talking to him, he seems like a great person.”
Raymond’s history of producing next level cornerbacks was a big draw for Phillips.
“It’s really all on me, but give me the tools I need to achieve that,” Phillips said.
Brian Kelly impressed upon Phillips parents being prepared for a career beyond football.
“My parents and I talked to him about life after football,” Phillips said. “We discussed what LSU offers after football is over and the ways they guide you into figuring out what you want to do once football ends because it’s going to come to an end.”
“Then we talked about what they like about me, as far as my physicality, tackling, press, and how that fits into their scheme.”
Phillips versatility could have him playing either cornerback or safety at the next level.
LSU now has 24 commitments for the class of 2025. The Tigers class is currently ranked as a consensus top-3 class in the nation by multiple recruiting services.
