BREAKING: Legendary boxer George Foreman of East Texas dies in peace

East Texas — Former boxer and businessman George Foreman Sr. of East Texas, who become world famous for his career in the ring and gained new notoriety for the grill that brought him millions of new fans, died Friday surrounded by his family at the age of 76.

They posted notice of his death on Instagram.

“Our hearts are broken. With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose,” the post read in part.

Foreman was born in Marshall, Texas on January 10, 1949. He was an Olympic gold medalist in boxing and his power inspired fear when others entered the ring with him.

He became heavyweight champion by defeating Joe Frazier in 1973.

One year later, Muhammad Ali knocked Foreman off his boxing perch in Zaire, baiting and taunting Foreman into losing his belt in one of the greatest fights ever staged.

Foreman left boxing and then returned ten years later, pulling off a spectacular knockout in 1994, defeating Michael Moorer — 19 years his junior — with one perfect combination to claim Moorer’s two heavyweight belts.
