Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath arrived in Gorakhpur on Saturday, where Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat is taking part in a camp for RSS workers.

In the backdrop of electoral reverses in Uttar Pradesh, speculations were were rife over a likely meeting between Bhagwat and Adityanath. However the leaders haven’t met so far.

Asked about it, RSS sources said there was no announcement of any scheduled meeting, PTI reported.

Water crisis in Delhi continued to rage on Sunday, as tankers were seen supplying water to residents across several areas of the national capital including Govindpuri and Okhla.

Houses of 11 persons built on government land were demolished in Madhya Pradesh’s tribal-dominated Mandla in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday as part of action against illegal beef trade in the state.

Mandla Superintendent of Police Rajat Saklecha told news agency PTI that the action came after cops received a tip-off about several cows being held captive for slaughter in Bhainwahi area in Nainpur. READ FULL STORY

Several people were wounded after a man opened fire at a splash on Auburn in Michigan’s Rochester Hills, authorities said.

As per the Oakland County Sherrif’s Office, there were “numerous wounded victims”. Authorities said that there was still an active crime scene and officers “potentially have the suspect contained nearby”.

Stephen Huber, a spokesperson for the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, told the Detroit News, “It’s five shot and maybe six.”

The Metro trains services on the Phase-III sections began at 6 am instead of 8 am to facilitate conveyance for candidates appearing for the Civil Services (Prelim) Examination held by UPSC today.

Aman Kumar, a candidate, told news agency ANI, “I have to appear for my exam in Noida. Metro services started at 6 AM today. It is a good initiative by the govt as we will be able to reach the exam centres on time.”

Another passenger said, “It is a good thing that the metro started today at 6 AM. It will be helpful for the UPSC students to reach their exam centres on time. Metro services on the Pink Line should permanently start at 6 AM instead of 8 AM.”

Ahead of the global celebration of International Yoga Day on June 21, yoga sessions have been organised on the runway of Indian Coast Guard Airport in Daman.

In Sri Lanka’s Trincomalee, Eastern Province Governor Senthil Thondaman organised the celebration of the 10th International Day of Yoga in which over 5,000 people took part.

Talking about the murder of a 34-year-old man in North east Delhi, DCP Joy Tirkey said, “The deceased name is Vicky…He was shot in the back of his head…The family is upset as his younger brother was also murdered on 26th March. The three accused in the murder (of younger brother) were arrested and are currently lodged in jail. The investigation is underway.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will hold a high-level meeting in Delhi on Saturday to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the preparations for the annual Amarnath pilgrimage set to begin on June 29.

This comes just three days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi also held a similar meeting, directing officials to deploy the “full spectrum of counter-terror capabilities” after a series of terror incidents, including a bus attack on a bus carrying pilgrims. READ FULL STORY

An official statement from the Sikkim government said that the evacuation of over 1,200 tourists, who were stranded in the Mangan district due to damaged roads and communication work, might begin on Sunday.

Sikkim Tourism and Civil Aviation minister Tshering Thendup Bhutia will coordinate the evacuation operations.

“The evacuation of tourists from Lachung would begin tomorrow through airlift and roadways, depending on weather conditions,” the statement said on Saturday evening.

At least six people were killed and several others were stranded due to landslides and heavy rains, which also brought damage to properties and road networks.

Delhi Minister and AAP leader Atishi wrote to Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora about the tampering being done with water pipes.

“I am writing to request deployment of police personnel to patrol and protect our major pipelines for the next 15 days to stop miscreants or people with ulterior motives from tampering water pipelines which have now become Delhi’s lifelines. At this juncture any foul play and sabotage will worsen the already difficult water shortage being faced by the people of Delhi,” she said in her letter.

CRPF DG Anish Singh Dayal arrived at the Ministry of Home Affairs in North Block ahead of a high-level meeting, set to be chaired by Amit Shah to review the security arrangements in Jammu and Kashmir for Amarnath Yatra.

A fire broke out in the forests of Himachal Pradesh’s Solan. Forest officials and fire tenders are trying to douse the fire.

A local resident, told news agency ANI that, “The fire has been going on for 2-3 days now… Controlling the fire is getting difficult even though all the villagers have been trying for some time.”

The BJP is holding a ‘matka-phod’ protest against Delhi’s Aam Aadmi Party government over the water crisis in the city. BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj also is participating in the protest.

Protesting against the Delhi government over the current water crisis, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj said, “This is not a natural problem, it has been created by the AAP. Delhi has sufficient water, and Haryana is releasing more water than agreed upon. In just 10 years, AAP has taken Delhi Jal Board from a profit of Rs 600 crores in 2013 to a loss of Rs 73000 crores in 2024.”

An Indian Air Force contingent participated in Exercise Red Flag 2024 conducted at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska of the United States Air Force from June 4 to June 14.

A fire has broken out at Bali-Tisrshi Block of Udhampur Forest Range in Jammu and Kashmir.

Several people feared drowned after a boat capsized in the Ganga river near Uma Nath Ganga Ghat in Bihar’s Gosaimath on Sunday, June 16.

Delhi Water Minister Atishi said, “Right now there is a severe heat wave in Delhi and there is also a water crisis. But during all this, it seems that some people are conspiring to make this water shortage worse by breaking the water pipeline.”

“Yesterday, the main water pipeline of South Delhi, which comes from Sonia Vihar, provides water to the entire South Delhi, there was a leakage in that water pipeline. It seems that some conspiracy is going on and I have also written a letter to the Police Commissioner today in this regard,” she said.

“I have also spoken to the Police Commissioner that the main water distribution lines should be provided security by the police. It is well known who is hatching a conspiracy against the Delhi Government and the Arvind Kejriwal Government. But this is not the time for allegations and counter-allegations, this is not the time for dirty politics,” Atishi added.

A fire broke out in a factory in Delhi’s Mundka Industrial Area. Around 35 fire tenders have reached the spot, Delhi Fire Services said.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi reacting to the hike in petrol and diesel prices said, “Due to this, the prices of public transport and essential commodities will increase… There is a situation of famine in many countries, while wars are also going on. It is causing the rise in prices.”

“The Modi government is trying to control the prices. But the Karnataka government has suddenly increased the prices, due to which the prices of essential commodities used in daily life will increase… I condemn it, they (the state government) should take it back,” he added.

Karnataka BJP chief BY Vijayendra reacted to the surge in fuel prices and said, “Desperate CM Siddaramaiah is not able to give any new programs in Karnataka simply because of their guarantees. After the Lok Sabha elections, they have now increased the price of petrol by Rs 3 and diesel by Rs 3.5.”

“This will cost dearly for all sections in the state… Tomorrow, we have organised protests against this in the entire state and we are not going to sit quietly till the rates are revised,” he added.

Two people have been killed and at least six others injured after a mass shooting at a Juneteenth festival in Texas Saturday night, officials were cited as saying by the New York Post.

The Mumbai Police have registered a new case in connection with firing outside actor Salman Khan’s residence here in April and arrested one person from Rajasthan on charges of criminal intimidation, an official told news agency PTI on Sunday.

The accused has been identified as Banwarilal Laturlal Gujar (25), hailing from Bundi in Rajasthan, the crime branch official said.

Gurjar had allegedly uploaded a video on his YouTube channel in which he said “Lawrence Bishnoi, Goldy Brar and other gang members are with me and I am going to kill Salman Khan as he did not apologise yet”, the official said.

Security forces storm a detention centre in southern Russia, killing an unknown number of hostage takers, reports AP

NEET, ‘masquerading’ as a measure of merit, is a ‘scam’ and the Centre must stop defending the national test as it went against the interests of students and it is also against social justice and poor, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin said on Sunday.

Stalin, also the president of the ruling DMK said in a post on X: “The ongoing controversies around #NEET highlight its fundamentally inequitable nature. In a society where education has been denied for thousands of years, we should offer more opportunities for advancement of the oppressed. On the contrary, NEET hinders the opportunities of such students.”

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah defended a hike in petrol and diesel prices on Sunday, insisting that the revised rates were still lower than neighbouring states. 

“The Government of Karnataka has increased VAT on petrol to 29.84% and on diesel to 18.44%. Even after this hike, our state’s taxes on fuel remain lower than most South Indian states and similar economy-sized states like Maharashtra,” the CM said. 

The water crisis in Delhi continues to hit headlines with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led government there asking police protection for major pipelines for the next 15 days.

Meanwhile, the BJP on Sunday staged a protest against the AAP government of Delhi over the water crisis. A Delhi Jal Board (DJB) office in Delhi was also vandalised on Sunday.

Rejecting accusations of saffronisation of school curriculum, NCERT’s director has said that references to Gujarat riots and Babri masjid demolition were modified in school textbooks because teaching about riots “can create violent and depressed citizens.”

In an interaction with PTI editors at the agency’s headquarters here on Saturday, National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) director Dinesh Prasad Saklani said the tweaks in textbooks are part of annual revision and should not be a subject of hue and cry. 

German police fired shots at a person who threatened officers with a pickaxe and an incendiary device on the sidelines of a soccer fan parade in the St Pauli district of central Hamburg on Sunday, according to a police post on social media platform X.

A major police operation is now underway and the attacker is currently receiving medical care for injuries, the post added.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting in Delhi on Sunday to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the preparations for the annual Amarnath pilgrimage set to begin on June 29.

In the meeting, Home Minister directed all security agencies to work in a mission mode and ensure quick response in a coordinated manner.

He said that the fight against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is in its decisive phase and added that recent incidents show that terrorism has been forced to shrink from highly organised acts of terrorist violence to a mere proxy war.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced that Canada will host the next G7 Summit in 2025. The summit will take place in Kananaskis, Alberta, Trudeau revealed on social media platform X.

When asked if he would invite Modi to the 2025 summit, Trudeau appeared to sidestep the question, saying: “I appreciate the keenness with which the Canadians look forward to the next year’s G7.” 

“However, Italy continues to be the president of this G7 for the rest of this year and I look forward to working with Prime Minister Meloni and all my G7 partners on the broad range of issues we have talked about…,” Trudeau told reporters at a press conference on Saturday.

A person injured in the tempo traveller accident in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag succumbed to his injuries, taking the toll to 15, while the condition of four of the 11 injured is still critical, officials said on Sunday.

A person who was brought to AIIMS, Rishikesh by air ambulance after the accident on Saturday died late at night, trauma surgeon Ruby Kataria said.

A tempo traveller carrying tourists skidded off the Badrinath national highway, rolled 200 metres down a gorge and fell into Alaknanda river, killing or injuring all 26 people present in it. Ten people died on the spot near Raitoli village, about four kilometres from Rudraprayag district headquarters.

A summit aimed at ending the war in Ukraine has concluded in Switzerland, with dozens of countries committing to Ukraine’s territorial integrity. However, several countries, including India, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Indonesia, Mexico, and the United Arab Emirates, did not sign the final communique.

The summit, attended by over 90 countries and international organisations, aimed to create broad support for a peace process. The final document blames Russia for the war’s widespread suffering and destruction, and calls for Ukraine to regain control over occupied territories, including the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and Azov Sea ports.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is likely to hold pre-budget consultations with industry chambers on June 20, sources said.

The budget for 2024-25 fiscal is likely to be presented in Parliament in the second half of July.

Industry sources said the pre-budget consultation with Sitharaman would be preceded by a meeting with Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra on June 18. The 2024-25 Budget is likely to lay out Modi 3.0 government’s economic agenda.

The finance minister will have to look at measures to boost growth without hurting inflation as well as look for resources to meet the coalition government’s compulsion.
