SEADRIFT, Texas — On Thursday at approximately 5:30 p.m., Mayor Pro Tem Tracey Johnson of Seadrift declared a local state of disaster due to a public health emergency stemming from a loss of water pressure and other water-related issues.
The disaster declaration states that the town’s 40-year-old water treatment plant is unable to function efficiently, leading to “frequent breakdowns and inefficiencies in water treatment processes.”
The declaration also mentions a boil water notice and states that “the financial burden of maintaining this aging [water] system has become overwhelming.”
In a social media post, Johnson advised residents not to panic, adding that the declaration will “open up avenues for additional help.”
