Congressman Darrell Issa, a Republican from San Diego, is vulnerable to losing his seat after redistricting
Credit: Congressman Darrell Issa OfficeSan Diego’s Republican Congressman Darrell Issa is considering a run for a House seat in Texas after Prop 50 redistricting maps could knock the only conservative federal lawmaker out of southern California.
Issa is the only Republican representative in San Diego and is now facing 11 Democratic challengers in the midterm elections after California’s successful bid to offset Texas’ effort to secure control of the House by adding five Republican seats. California voters approved the redistricting plan proposed in Proposition 50 by nearly 20 points in a special election last month.
Early last month, Issa vowed that he was not leaving the state in a statement on his Congressional website after the ballot measure passed, saying: “I’m not quitting on California.”
“California is my home. And it’s worth fighting for. I know how many of my friends and constituents feel about tonight’s election results and the unprecedented purely partisan campaign that pitted neighbor against neighbor and divided the state as never before,” he wrote. “It was difficult to watch as Gavin Newsom and Sacramento’s special interests set about shredding the state constitution, disenfranchising millions of Californians solely because of how they vote, and delivering what they know is an undeserved advantage to Democrats.”
But now it appears that he is eyeing a move to the Lone Star state for a seat in the Dallas area, first reported by Punchbowl News.
